2009 Sheep Fitting and Grooming Contest
Show Coordinator:  Julianne Moore

The main objective in a Fitting and Grooming contest is to present a well-groomed animal to the
judge.  A well-groomed animal displays the exhibitor’s ability to fit (shape the wool) to a prime
finished appearance.  A clean, well-trained animal is important to this process.

Fitting and Grooming Objectives:
The animals should be groomed to best display the following qualities:
Sheep/Lamb:  Display breeding, conformation, and muscle qualities.

Rules:
Open to registered youth exhibitors.  Contestant must furnish own equipment (foot trimmers,
rake, wool card, head card, shears, stone, fork, brush, knife, oil, etc.)  Contestants will not be allowed
to leave their sheep or the grooming area, after the contest begins, receive any equipment, or
communicate with anyone outside of the contest area.  Therefore, all sheep must be pre-washed prior
to the start of the contest.  Contestants will have one hour to complete the fitting and grooming of
their animal.  Each contestant must provide a sheep/lamb for the contest.  Sheep/lambs must be
inspected and approved and scored by the judge before the start of the contest.  Judging will be
based on the improved appearance of the sheep/lamb during the time of the contest.

The Sheep/Lamb entered in this contest should be brought to the fair in field/rough trimmed
condition, unclipped, but pre-washed prior to the start of the contest. (In other words, the lamb
should not be completely groomed prior to entering the contest).
